Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a fun and safe weekend. As you come in, review the important notes and then begin your assignments...

Important Notes:
- The new school name is Main Street Umoja Community School. Umoja means 'unity' in Swahili. The short name for the school will just be Umoja Community School.
- In order to start preparing everyone for waking up early and making it school on time, there will be a 15 minute detention for everyone who arrives after 1:00PM. This will get stricter once we change sites & times. If you're more than 15 minutes late each day, you're missing too much work. Please don't make me hang out with you after school everyday. It's not fun for me and it's cleaning chores for you. Detention = cleaning! You can thank my military father for that.
- Have you completed your lunch bag presentation yet? After today, I will no longer hold presentations. So if you have not yet gone, today is your last chance!

1) Vocabulary -

- For each word, you need to find a definition. Remember, copying and pasting is not doing your own work! Find the definition, make sense of it, and then put it in your own words.
- Copy the following example sentences:
Distinct (adj) - People from Texas have a distinct accent.
Potential (noun) - Smokers have a great potential for lung cancer and heart disease. They also are guaranteed yellow teeth and stinky breath.
Formula (noun) - You need to use the area formula in order to solve the math problem.

3) Frankenstein - INDEPENDENT & SILENT READING
At 1:40, I will ask the entire class to be quiet and begin their silent, independent reading. You need to read Chapter 11 from Frankenstein and answer the reading questions. This chapter is the beginning of the monster sharing his story with Victor.
