It's Friday!! It's pumpkin carving day! Yay!

Today's Agenda:

  • Social Studies - Concentration Camp (Map Assignment)

  • Pumpkin Carving & Costume Contest!

1) Vocabulary Quiz - Ask Ms. S for it and take it.

2) Social Studies - Go to Edmodo. Your assignment is to draw and label a map in order to understand where the war was talking place and where the concentration camps were located. The worksheet will be turned in on Edmodo and the map will be turned in on paper.

3) Language Arts - Make sure you do the "I did it" for today's Night reading questions.

Happy Thursday! I hope everyone enjoyed their day off yesterday while I was in a meeting!

It's Thursday, so we have sex-ed again today. Keep that in mind as you complete your independent assignments...

1) Don't forget that tomorrow is pumpkin carving & best costume contest day! Please bring your pumpkins, your coolest (appropriate) costume, pumpkin carving tools, and a super excited attitude!


2) Vocabulary - You need to write TWO (2) sentences for each of your vocabulary words: Issue, Summarize, and Evidence. Your VOKI NEEDS TO READ YOUR SENTENCES FOR YOU ON YOUR BLOG. Remember, in order for your voki to be able to read your sentences correctly, they have to be typed in complete sentences, using correct punctuation (like periods!).

3) Social Studies - Today you will learn about the last of your top 3 Nazi officials - Reinhard Heydrich. Go to Edmodo for the websites you'll need and the worksheet. Turn in on Edmodo.

Happy Tuesday! Today is a busy, busy day....so get ready!

A few quick notes:

- We are beginning our new round of Sex-Ed today. All of you are participating. It will begin at 1:30 so that means you need to complete your independent assignments before 1:30. Computers must be turned in by that time.
- Tomorrow is PACKET DAY! That means that you must turn in your history AND your packet before you're allowed to go home today. I want you to go home on time, so use your time wisely right now!

Alright, so as you come in, here are your assignments:

1) First things first. If you have not yet added the WINTER QUARTER courses of US History, World History, and Language Arts - do so now!

2) Vocabulary - For your vocabulary, you need to HAVE YOUR VOKI say the synonyms for you on your blog. Go to voki. Sign in. Type in the synonyms for each word. Get the link and paste it in your blog.



The synonyms for each of your words are:
- Issue - Subject, question, topic, concern, problem
- Evidence - proof, confirmation, facts, data, support
- Summarize - recap, go over, condense, sum up
You also need to find an IMAGE for each of your vocabulary words. WRITE A SENTENCE that explains why you choose that image to represent your vocabulary word.

3) Social Studies - Go to Edmodo. Find your new Nazi leader to research. Use the sites I gave you. Download the questions. Answer them. Submit them back to me on Edmodo. You rock as a student. Today you are learning about the man below - Heinrich Himmer. He was in charge of the SS.

Welcome to Winter Quarter!

A few important notes:
  • No more redo/make-up work can be submitted. Your report cards will be completed this week & you can ask for your grades at that time. Report cards will be sent home in about two weeks.
  • Oh, and the Seahawks won their game this week. I think the Chargers didn't. Don't ever tell Ms. S that San Diego is cooler than Seattle again.
As you come into class, complete the following assignments:

1) Edmodo - I have created new Language Arts, US History, and World History classes. The codes were sent to you. Join them so that you can do your history assignment today!

2) Vocabulary - Your vocabulary words for this week are:

Issue (noun) -
Now that you can check your grades on Edmodo, missing work should no longer be an issue.
Evidence (noun) - The evidence that let me conclude the Seahawks were cooler than the Chargers was that the Seahawks won their game and the Chargers did not.
Summarize (verb, noun) -Summarizing what you have just read allows you to recall important information.

In your blog, you need to:
  • Title your blog - Week 1 Vocabulary
  • Find the definitions for each word.
  • Copy the sample sentences.
3) Social Studies - Go to Edmodo. Today, you will be researching background information on Adolf Hitler. Link & worksheet are on Edmodo. Due today before you go home.

As you come into class today, here are your independent assignments:

1) Create a voki. A voki is something like this:



- Go to voki.com
- Create a user/password
- Save your user/password in your email

2) Vocabulary. You need to write TWO (2) sentences for each of your vocabulary words. Your vocabulary words from this week are: Consent, Emphasis, and Criteria.

If you are feeling bold, use your voki and enter in your sentences. Have your voki on your blog read your sentences for you! (You'll be required to do this next week).

3) Social Studies. Go to Edmodo.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY THAT I WILL ACCEPT LATE WORK FOR REPORT CARDS! I am doing report cards on Friday!
As you come in, here are the assignments you need to complete:

1) Remember, our new quarter will have a large portion of your work on the computer. Make sure you have your gmail, your blog, and your edmodo account. Make sure you have turned in your
blog website on the edmodo so that I can actually see & grade it.

2) Vocabulary - Copy the following synonyms for each of your vocabulary words.
Consent - permission, approval, okay
Emphasis - stress, importance
Criteria - standard, measure


You ALSO need to FIND AN IMAGE FOR EACH WORD and post it in your blog. WRITE A SENTENCE about how each image represents your vocabulary word.

3) REDO/MAKE-UP WORK - You need to turn in TWO (2) redo or make-up assignments in order to go home today.



4) PACKET DAY TOMORROW - If you finish your work early, work on your packet for tomorrow. Your packet is also due before you go home today.

Here are your assignments as you come into class:

1) If you have not yet created your gmail, edmodo, or blog - you need to do so! This will become even more of a routine in our class next week when the new quarter begins.

2) Vocabulary - This week's vocabulary words are:

- Consent (verb & noun)
Ex: You have to have parental consent in order to watch an R-rated movie.
- Emphasis (noun) to emphasize the importance of exercise as part of maintaining good health.
Ex: The doctor wanted
- Criteria (noun)
Ex: Did you make sure your project met the necessary criteria to earn a good grade?

In your blog, you need to:
- Find the definitions for each word & PUT THEM IN YOUR OWN WORDS
- Copy the same sentences for each word

3) REDO/MAKE-UP WORK - The last day to turn in any redo/missing work is tomorrow. Your history grades have been updated on Edmodo. EVERYTHING for history and biology classes has been graded - ask Ms. S for your print out of missing work. TWO REDO/MISSING ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE TURNED IN BEFORE YOU GO HOME TODAY.

3) Eight Stages of Genocide -
You will be reading and learning about the Eight Stages of Genocide, an example of which is the Holocaust. Once you have read about the Eight Stages, you will need to complete the worksheet, which is located on the Edmodo site.

1. View the 8 Stages of Genocide slideshow.
2. View the websites listed on Edmodo.
3. Complete your worksheet. NOTE: The examples you provide need to come from previous assignments, the listed websites, AND what you have learned from reading Night.
4. Turn in on Edmodo.

The following quote is from the novel Night by Elie Weisel. When responding to this quote, think about the following questions:

- What does Elie mean by this quote?
- Why does this quote seem important to the book? To thinking about the Holocaust?
- Why do you think he repeats the word "never?" What is the effect?

(If you thought yesterday was a no-school day, you were sadly mistaken. Now you need to make up the work you missed!)

1) If you have not created your gmail, your edmodo account, or your blog - do this immediately! Once you have done so, make sure you have turned in your blog URL to me on the edmodo site, as well as your other assignments that have been submitted online.

2) Vocabulary - Your three vocabulary words for the week are: Previous, Alternative, and Strategy

IN YOUR BLOG, YOU NEED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
- Copy the synonyms for each word:
Previous - preceding, earlier, prior, before
Alternative - other, another, substitute, option, choice
Strategy - plan, policy
- You must also FIND AN IMAGE for each word. You also need to WRITE A SENTENCE describes the image you have chosen and explain why it illustrates your vocab word.

3) Social Studies- Complete the following assignments from your textbook. This can be done on paper and does not have to be submitted online.

Good afternoon bloggers!

First things first, if you do not yet have a gmail account, an edmodo account, or a blog - you need to set it all up today before you go home!

Otherwise, here are your assignments:

1) Vocabulary -For your vocabulary, you need to POST YOUR RESPONSE IN YOUR BLOG! The blog title will be Week 8 Vocabulary Paragraph. Your paragraph needs to use all three vocabulary words in a cohesive paragraph: Role, Category, and Consume. I want you to write your paragraph in response to the following quote. Your response can be what you think the quote means, a summary, or anything you think is connected.

The quote is from a Japanese-American who was in an internment camp during World War II.

Good afternoon!

Before you leave school today, you MUST CREATE A PROFESSIONAL GMAIL ACCOUNT! If you do not have a PROFESSIONAL (i.e. just your name) GMAIL account, this is the first thing you must do as you come into class today. Once your gmail is created, you need to email Ms. S (dsendaydiego@sdcoe.net) as your exit ticket. Even if you have already emailed me before from you gmail, do it again.

Other than that, here is your vocabulary & social studies assignments for your independent work.

1) Vocabulary - Copy the following SYNONYMS in the characteristics box. You also need to DRAW AN IMAGE for each word in the characteristics box.

Role- Position, responsibility
Category - Group, class, type
Consume- Eat, use, use up, drink

2) Social Studies - All US History & World History students must complete the WWII Children Letters worksheet. Ask me for it.

As you come into class, here are your following assignments:

1) Vocabulary - Copy the definitions in the definitions box. Copy the sample sentences in the examples box.
  • Consume (verb) -- To completely use time, energy, goods, etc.
- To have a very strong feeling that changes the way you behave and what you think about
- To eat or drink something
Example - Buying CD's consumes half of my weekly allowance.
  • Category (noun)- A group of people or things that all have the same particular qualities
Example- My favorite category of music is Oldies, like The Beatles and Tom Petty.
  • Role (noun)
- The way in which someone or something is involved in an activity or situation, and how much influence they have on it
- The character played by an actor in a play or movie
Example- Students must take an active role in their education if they want to be successful.

2) Social Studies
