Why is it raining?!?!
As you come into class, here are the assignments you need to complete:

1) VOCABULARY - It's something a little different today. I want you to write a PARAGRAPH (5 sentences) that uses all three of your vocabulary words (Plot, Voice, and Factor) in order to respond to the following quote from The Outsiders. Do this on the back of one of your vocabulary sheets. You must use all three words!

Quote: Johnny: "I used to talk about killing myself all the time, man. But I don't wanna die now. It ain't long enough. Sixteen years ain't gonna be long enough. Hell, I wouldn't care so much if there hadn't been so many things I haven't done yet. So many damn things I ain't seen or done. That time when we were in Windrixville was the only time I've ever been away from my neighborhood."

Good afternoon! I hope that everyone had a good weekend! As you come in, here are your independent assignments you need to work on:
1)
Vocabulary - Copy the vocabulary word in the circle. In the DEFINITION box, copy the following definitions for each word. In the EXAMPLES box, copy the sample sentences for each word

Voice - The sounds that you make when you speak, or the ability to make these sounds
- The right or ability to express an opinion, to vote, or to influence decisions
Ex - Her vote gave
voice to the opinion she had on free health care.

Plot - The events that form the main story of a book, movie, or play
- A small piece of land for building or growing things on
- A secret plan made by several people to do something harmful or illegal
Ex - The students
plotted how to use their cell phones without the teacher knowing.

Factor - One of several things that influence or cause a situation
- The deciding/decisive/determining factor
Ex - Ms. S likes both Seattle and San Diego, but the deciding
factor for which city she liked best was when the Seahawks beat the Chargers!

When you are done with your vocabulary, you need to work on the following History assignments:

US History - Chapter 7, Section 3 #1-5 (choose any 2 for #2)
World History
- Chapter 9, Section 3 #1-6 (Skip #3, choose any 2 for #2)

Good afternoon!

As you come in this afternoon, you need to complete the following:

1) Vocabulary. You need to write TWO (2) SENTENCES for each of your vocabulary words.
  • Sequence
  • Verify
  • Simplify
2) History Lunch Bags ARE DUE TODAY. All 15 artifacts must be included in your lunch bag and it must meet the following requirements:
-
Year (early, middle, or end of WWI)

- Timeline of 5 surrounding events (what came before it, what came after it)

- Important vocabulary

- Significant people & their impact

- Effect on the war

- Images

- Description of events in your section


3) If you finish early, work on any missing/redo work you may have.

As you come in, here are your assignments you need to work on independently....

1) Vocabulary - Copy the synonyms in the characteristics box. You also need to draw an image for each word in the characteristics box.

  • Verify - Check, confirm, validate, make sure, prove
  • Simplify - Make simpler, make things easier, shorten
  • Sequence - Succession, chain
2) History Lunch Bags - BEFORE YOU ARE ALLOWED TO GO HOME TODAY, you must have TEN (10) artifacts in your lunch bag. These are due (with 15 artifacts) on Thursday.

3) Packet Day tomorrow! If you finish both assignments before 1:45, you may work on your packet to earn your attendance for tomorrow!

And it's Monday already...

I hope all of you had a lovely little weekend. As you come into class, you need to complete the following:

1) Vocabulary. Copy the definitions & sample sentences for each word. Remember, the vocab. word goes in the middle - the definition in the definition box and the sample sentence in the example box.
  • Simplify (verb) - To make something clearer or easier to understand
Sample Sentence: The student asked the teacher to simplify the math problem into fewer steps.
  • Verify (verb) - To find out if a fact, statement, etc. is correct or true
Sample Sentence: Teachers grade tests to verify whether or not students actually learned the material. I will be verifying your knowledge about organ systems today, in fact!

  • Sequence (noun)
- The order that events or actions happen in, or are supposed to happen in
- One part of a story, movie, etc. that deals with a single subject or action

Sample Sentence: Math courses are taught in sequence so that the material builds upon itself.

2) When you complete your vocabulary, you need to have TEN (10) ARTIFACTS in your lunch bag. Final lunch bags will be due WEDNESDAY.

2) History Lunch Bags - By today, you should have SEVEN (7) artifacts included in your lunch bag. Remember, these include significant events, people, dates, vocabulary and general information about your section.


Quiz & 7 artifacts are due at 1:45.

If you finish early, you need to work on the following:
- Your autobiographical narrative
- Biology Projects
- Any other redo/make-up work
